Isle of Harris & Lewis One Day Photography Workshops
The Outer Hebrides are a chain of Islands set off the West Coast of Scotland and offer a photographer’s paradise: sweeping wind-sculpted dunes and expansive white sandy beaches that reflect light in a way few places do, while brooding mountains and jagged sea stacks create striking silhouettes at dawn and dusk. Changeable weather delivers dramatic skies, soft, diffused light for long exposures making the Outer Hebrides a place where every weather, mood, tide and hour unveils new photographic possibilities.

One-Day Photography Workshops — Isle of Harris & Lewis
Led by Adele & Max Warner-Tate
Experience the Isle of Harris and Lewis through a considered and personal approach to photography. These small group workshops by Adele & Max are limited to just three or four participants, allowing for a more focused, collaborative, and immersive day in the landscape.
Led personally by us, each workshop is carefully shaped around the group, while still allowing space for individual guidance and creative development.
With such a small group, there is time for meaningful one-to-one input throughout the day. We’ll guide you through composition, light, and technical decisions in a way that feels clear and unhurried, helping you to refine your approach and create images with intention and depth.
The pace of the day is deliberately measured. We spend less time moving and more time observing, allowing you to connect with the landscape and respond to it thoughtfully. Alongside learning, there is also the quiet benefit of sharing the experience with a small group of like-minded photographers.
Workshop highlights:
Small group format (maximum 3–4 participants)
Guided photography across a maximum of two locations
Personalised guidance within a supportive group setting
Emphasis on composition, natural light, and visual storytelling
A calm, considered and immersive experience
The workshop will last around 7-8 hours, each workshop will be tailored to suit the weather, time of year and tidal conditions.
Suitable for all levels of capability, no matter your experience we aim to improve your skill set to create images you are proud of. A basic understanding of your camera is required. If you are new to photography take a look at our 1:1 tuition packages.
This is a more thoughtful way to learn photography, shaped by light, and shared with a small group who value the same experience.
A Typical Day
We’ll meet at an agreed location, full details will be emailed out to you a week prior to the workshop.
Welcome & introductions
Arriving & Seeing the Landscape
We begin the day by slowing down and settling into the coastline. This first session is about learning to see—taking in the rhythm of the sea, the movement of the tide, and the quality of the light.
We’ll explore the shoreline together, finding strong viewpoints and beginning to shape simple, thoughtful compositions. There’s plenty of time for gentle guidance and space to get comfortable with both your camera and the environment.
2. Time to Explore & Refine
As the day opens up, we continue photographing at a relaxed pace, with more opportunity to experiment and develop your own way of working. This is also where we can begin to explore longer exposures, using filters to soften the movement of water and create a more considered, atmospheric feel to your images. I’ll guide you through this in a simple, approachable way, so it feels intuitive rather than technical.
I’ll be on hand throughout to offer guidance, help you refine your images, and encourage you to look a little deeper at the details, patterns, and changing conditions around you. This is a collaborative part of the day, where ideas can be shared and explored within the group.
Lunch Break (30 minutes)
A simple pause to rest, take in the surroundings, and reset for the afternoon.
3. Light, Mood & Finishing the Day
We finish the day by responding to the softer light and shifting atmosphere as the afternoon unfolds. This is often when the landscape feels at its most expressive.
With a more intuitive approach, you’ll have time to create images that reflect your own response to the place—bringing together everything from the day in a calm and unhurried way.
